Resumo
Objective: to describe Juliano Moreira's main contributions to combat scientific racism during Republican Brazil. Method: scoping review that followed the methodological guidelines of the Joanna Briggs Protocol for Scoping Reviews, registered in the open access online repository Open Science Framework and used five databases with health descriptors to search and select scientific articles and grey literature studies. Results: after excluding duplicates, 1690 references met the eligibility criteria, 21 publications met the inclusion criteria and were selected for the review, associated with thematic content analysis. Conclusion: at a time when eugenicist theories were disseminated, Juliano Moreira was the voice of Brazilian psychiatry. He refuted racial determinism and miscegenation as a factor in population degeneration. He denied the influence of races on mental illness and actively participated in the rupture of psychiatric knowledge based on asylum.
